About the Domain Checker

Check a name across many top-level domains at once using RDAP, the structured protocol that replaced WHOIS. For registered domains the lookup returns the registrar, creation and expiry dates and how long remains. Unlike a registrar search box, this queries the registry data directly rather than steering you toward a purchase.

How to use the Domain Checker

  1. Enter the name to check

Type the name without an extension — the tool checks it against each supported TLD.

  2. Review availability across TLDs

Each extension is marked available or registered, checked in parallel against the relevant registry.

  3. Inspect registered domains

For taken names, see the registrar, creation and expiry dates, and how many days remain before the registration lapses.

When to use it

Naming a new project

Check a shortlist of candidate names across every extension you would consider, in one pass.

Tracking a domain you want

See the expiry date of a registered domain to know when it might become available.

Auditing your own portfolio

Confirm renewal dates so nothing you own lapses unnoticed.

Frequently asked questions

What is RDAP and how does it differ from WHOIS?

RDAP is the modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns structured JSON over HTTPS, supports proper access control, and is the protocol registries are standardising on. WHOIS output was plain text with no consistent format.

Does checking a domain here risk it being taken?

No. RDAP queries go to the registry and are not shared with resellers. Domain front-running concerns historically involved registrar search boxes, not registry lookups.

Why does a domain show as available but fail at checkout?

Premium pricing, registry reserved lists, or a very recent registration not yet reflected. Availability is a snapshot, and only the registrar transaction is authoritative.

Why is some registrant information missing?

Privacy regulations and registrar privacy services redact personal contact data from public RDAP responses. Registrar, dates and status remain visible.

Can I register a domain here?

No. Tooly does not sell domains. Results link out to registrars where you can complete a registration.
