About the Notepad
A browser notepad that keeps multiple notes, saves as you type, and requires no account. Pin the notes you return to, search across all of them, switch on Markdown preview when you need formatting, and export to TXT, MD or HTML. Notes are stored in your browser rather than on a server, so nothing is synced or readable by anyone else.
How to use the Notepad
-
Start writing
Type directly into a new note. Everything is saved automatically as you go, with undo and redo available.
-
Organise with pins and search
Create as many notes as you need, pin the important ones to the top, and search across all of them by content.
-
Preview and export
Toggle Markdown preview to see formatted output, then export to TXT, MD or HTML, or print the note directly.
When to use it
Quick scratch notes
Capture a snippet, a command or a phone number without opening a desktop application.
Drafting before publishing
Write a post or a message in Markdown with live preview before pasting it into its final destination.
Meeting notes
Take notes that persist across page reloads and export them afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes stored?
In your browser localStorage on this device only. There is no account and no sync, which keeps notes private but also means they do not follow you to another browser.
Will I lose my notes?
Clearing browsing data, using private browsing, or a browser eviction under storage pressure will remove them. Export anything you cannot afford to lose.
Do notes sync between devices?
No. Storage is local to each browser. Export and re-import, or use a synced notes application, if you need notes on multiple devices.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Tooly is a progressive web app, so once it has been loaded the notepad continues to work without a connection.
