Rates as of 2026 — check your tax authority for your case. Amounts are rounded to the currency’s smallest unit (cents; whole units for CLP, COP and PYG), with halves rounded away from zero. Adding tax: tax = net × rate. Removing it: net = total ÷ (1 + rate), and the tax is the difference, so net + tax always equals the total. With several lines each line is rounded on its own and the totals add up the rounded lines; an invoice that works out the tax on the total of each rate can differ by a cent.

Everything is calculated in your browser, and your last amounts are saved there for next time. Nothing is sent to Tooly's server.

About the VAT Calculator

Add VAT to a price or take it out of one. Choose a country to get its tax and rates (IVA in Spain and most of Latin America, IGV in Peru, ITBMS in Panama, ITBIS in the Dominican Republic, ISV in Honduras, VAT in the UK) or type any rate. The calculator shows the net amount, the tax and the total, works with several lines at once with totals per rate, and rounds to the cent so the figures always add up.

How to use the VAT Calculator

  1. Choose Add or Remove

Add VAT starts from the net price, before tax; Remove VAT starts from a total that already includes it. Choose One amount for a single price or Several lines for an invoice or a quote.

  2. Pick the country and the rate

Choose a country and click one of its rates; the first is the standard rate. Type any other rate in Other. Amounts are shown in the country's currency, or as plain numbers if you untick the currency box.

  3. Type the amount and copy the result

The net, the tax and the total appear as you type, each with its own copy button, plus Copy all. With several lines, each line can have its own rate, and Copy summary gives you every line and the totals per rate as text.

When to use it

Quotes and invoices

Price a job before tax and see the total your client pays, or list several items with different rates and get the tax for each rate.

Expenses and receipts

Take the tax out of a receipt total to know the net cost and the VAT, IVA or IGV you can deduct.

Selling in another country

Check how a price changes with the rates of Spain, Mexico, Colombia or the UK before setting prices for that market.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate VAT backwards from a total?

Divide the total by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. With 21%, a total of 121 is 121 ÷ 1.21 = 100 net, and the VAT is the difference, 21. With 16%, 116 ÷ 1.16 = 100. That is what Remove VAT does.

Why is removing 21% not the same as subtracting 21%?

Because the 21% was worked out on the net price, not on the total. 21% of 121 is 25.41, and 121 − 25.41 = 95.59, which is wrong: the net was 100. Taking the tax out means dividing by 1.21. Subtracting the rate from a total always leaves a net that is too low.

How are the amounts rounded?

To the currency's smallest unit: cents for the euro, the peso or the pound, and whole units for Chilean pesos, Colombian pesos and Paraguayan guaraníes, with halves rounded up. When adding, the tax is net × rate, rounded; when removing, the net is total ÷ (1 + rate), rounded, and the tax is what is left, so net + tax always equals the total. With several lines each line is rounded on its own; an invoice that works out the tax on the total of each rate can differ by a cent.

Are the rates up to date?

They are the rates in force in 2026 in each country on the list, standard rate first: for example Spain 21%, 10% and 4%; Mexico 16%, and 8% in the border region; Colombia 19% and 5%; Argentina 21%, 10.5% and 27%. Rates, and the goods each one applies to, change, so check with your tax authority for your case, or type any rate in Other.

Does it work for US sales tax?

Not directly: US sales tax depends on the state, county and city, and is not on the list. You can still type your combined local rate in Other, since adding or removing a sales tax works the same way as VAT.
